Easter Drylaw Park May Become Jubilee Park

In 2012 Queen Elizabeth will celebrate 60 years on the throne. In recognition of this very significant anniversary
Fields in Trust have requested the Council’s assistance in commemorating the anniversary by dedicating public open spaces.

Fields In Trust (FIT) has a Royal Charter that requires it to protect and preserve parks and recreational space. They are currently the Guardian Trustee of 85 King George V Memorial Parks, held in perpetuity for the people of Scotland. This includes the King George V Park at Scotland Street.

FIT aims to dedicate a large number of open spaces and playing fields throughout the UK in a new scheme to be called the Queen Elizabeth II Fields. All local authorities have been called upon to demonstrate their commitment to provide high
quality, publicly accessible green spaces by dedicating their parks, gardens, woodlands and playing fields as open
space in perpetuity, through this scheme.

In response to this request, the council has drawn up a list of potentially suitable parks and included on this list is
Easter Drylaw Community Park. Once the parks on this list have been verified by FIT they will form part of a UK-wide selection process through a public vote.
